— About the course

VidantaWorld Vallarta is a Greg Norman design in Nuevo Nayarit, on Mexico's Pacific coast just north of Puerto Vallarta. It's been the home of the Mexico Open since the event moved there, and this year the tournament uses a new course layout.

The Mexico Open spent years in February. Moving to late October puts it in the FedExCup Fall, where players are chasing a spot in the top 100 of the standings.

— Worth knowing (trivia for the lounge)

  • Recent champions here include Brian Campbell (2025), Jake Knapp (2024), Tony Finau (2023) and Jon Rahm (2022).
  • Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power, who just played off in Bermuda, are both entered.
  • The reported field includes Wyndham Clark, Tony Finau, Ben Griffin, Lucas Glover, Akshay Bhatia and Max Homa.
  • Mexican players Alvaro Ortiz, Omar Morales and Santiago de la Fuente are in the field, and two more earned spots through the Monday qualifier.
  • The top 100 in the FedExCup Fall standings is what the week is about for most of the field.

— Last week's results

Austin Smotherman won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Monday, beating Seamus Power on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff at Port Royal. Smotherman made par on the par-3 16th, and Power couldn't get up and down from the rough.

Gusts up to 40 mph canceled Sunday's final round, so the tournament was cut to 54 holes with both men tied at 16 under. It's Smotherman's second Tour title this month, after his first in Utah.

On the LPGA side, Yuri Yoshida of Japan won the BMW Ladies Championship at Pine Beach Golf Links in Korea for her first LPGA Tour victory. She finished at 17 under, one stroke clear of Haeran Ryu and Hye-Jin Choi.
