It's a big week. The year's final women's major heads to a classic English links, and the Rocket Classic plays its farewell in Detroit before leaving town for good. Here's the story behind both, a little trivia for the lounge, and how to watch.
— About Detroit Golf Club
Detroit Golf Club is a Donald Ross design that opened in 1916, a private club tucked into the middle of the city with 36 holes of classic parkland golf. The Tour has visited since 2019, playing a layout drawn mostly from the North Course — tree-lined, subtle, and built around Ross's trademark greens.
This year it has fresh teeth. A reported $16 million restoration lengthened the course and rebuilt the bunkering, so it plays to a par 70 for 2026, a shot tougher than the birdie-fest of years past. Expect the winning score to come down from the 22 under it took to win in 2025.

- This is the last one. After eight editions since 2019, the Rocket Classic leaves Detroit for good after 2026 — the final time the Tour plays Ross's downtown gem.
- Defending champ Aldrich Potgieter is one of the longest hitters on Tour. Last summer the 20-year-old South African won his first title in a five-hole playoff over Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk.
- A genuine Donald Ross original from 1916, Detroit Golf Club is one of only a handful of Ross designs the pros still compete on each year.
- The restoration this past year was led by architect Tyler Rae, leaning back into Ross's strategy — firmer, longer, and a par lower. The scorecard finally bites back.
AIG Women's Open, July 30–August 2
The fourth and final women's major of the year lands at Royal Lytham & St Annes on England's Lancashire coast, for the championship's landmark 50th playing. It's a proper Open-rota links — more than 200 bunkers, wind off the Irish Sea — and this year it carries a record $10 million purse, the biggest in the event's history.
