Game modes, players and settings
The questions that come up in the second hour: how do we play a scramble, can my buddy join late, why won’t it read my lefty swing, and where’s the mulligan button.
Before you start
- A round set up or in progress in GSPro — see Start a round.
1Pick a game format
Choose this on the round options screen before you start (see Start a round). The ones people actually use:
- Stroke play — the default. Everyone plays their own ball, lowest total wins.
- Scramble — the group one. Everyone hits, you pick the best ball, everyone hits from there. Fastest way to play 9 holes with four people in an hour.
- Match play — head-to-head, hole by hole. Great for two.
- Skins / Stableford — points or money per hole, if that’s your group.
Once a round has started the format is locked. Want to switch from stroke play to a scramble? Quit and start a new round — it takes about a minute.
2Add or change players mid-round
- Open the in-round menu and look for Players. Add the new name, set their tee and handedness, and carry on — they join from the current hole.
- Someone leaving early? The same screen lets you remove them so the game stops waiting for their shot.
- If your build doesn’t offer it, finish the hole, quit, and start a fresh round with everyone added. You lose a few minutes, not the evening.
3Left-handed players
- Handedness is per player. Set it when you add each person (see Add your players).
- Once set, nothing to do mid-round — when a lefty’s name comes up, the sensor is already reading from the correct side.
- Lefty’s shots flying the wrong way or not registering? Their profile is set to right-handed. Fix it in the players screen.
Mixed group? Left-handers stand on the other side of the ball, so give the swing a bit more room and keep the bay clear behind both sides.
4Mulligans, gimmes and club choice
- Mulligan — in-round menu → Mulligan. The ball goes back to where you hit from and the stroke is forgiven. House rule for your group is up to you.
- Gimmes — set on the round options screen. Inside the gimme distance the game holes the putt and moves on; it’s what keeps a foursome to under three hours.
- Club choice — on auto, GSPro picks a sensible club by distance and reads what you actually hit. Prefer to choose? Switch to manual in the club panel on the side of the screen.
- Putting — take a real putting stroke. If your group would rather not putt at all, turn on auto-putt in the round options.
5Wind, greens and conditions
- Wind — calm, light, moderate or strong, plus direction. Start calm; add wind once you trust your numbers.
- Green speed — slow to fast. Medium plays like a good public course.
- Pin position — easy to hard. Hard pins are tucked; easy ones sit in the middle.
- Time of day — purely for looks. Sunset is popular for a reason.
All of these are set on the round options screen before the round; they can’t be changed once you’ve teed off.
6Scorecard, skipping a hole, and quitting
- Scorecard — in-round menu → Scorecard. Running totals for everyone, updated every hole.
- Skip / concede a hole — in-round menu → Next hole. Handy when the booking clock is winning.
- Quit — in-round menu → Quit round. You’re back at the main menu. If you’re signed into your own GSPro account, the round is saved to your history.
Out of time? Quit, sign out, and run the leaving checklist. The bay after yours starts on time.
