Bellerive is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, and it looks like one from the first tee. Long, big deep bunkers, water where you don't want it, thick rough. Jones built to a simple idea — hard par, easy bogey — and nothing here is hidden or tricked up. The trouble is right in front of you the whole way. St. Louis nicknamed it the "Green Monster of Ladue" and the name stuck.

It plays as a par 70 at 7,448 yards this week. The hole everyone will be talking about early is the par-3 6th, playing 215 yards over water to a green that has shrunk over the years. It ranked as the hardest hole on the course at the 2018 PGA Championship. Then comes "The Ridge," the brutal 14-15-16 stretch along the high ground, closing with a 237-yard par 3 straight into the wind. Par is a good score on all three.

• Bellerive is one of only five courses in the world where a player has completed the career Grand Slam. Gary Player did it here at the 1965 U.S. Open, winning an 18-hole Monday playoff. The other four are Augusta National, St. Andrews, Muirfield and Carnoustie.
• The 2018 PGA Championship here gave us Brooks Koepka holding off Tiger Woods, who shot a final-round 64 — his best closing round in a major. Woods posted 14 under and lost by two. It was his closest call at a major in a decade.
• The club started in 1897 as a nine-hole course with a different name on a different property. It moved twice before landing on this land in 1959 and hiring Jones. The old Normandy site is now part of the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus, and the clubhouse became a dorm.
• Camilo Villegas won the 2008 BMW Championship here for his first PGA TOUR victory — the only non-major the club had ever hosted. That was the last time the TOUR came to St. Louis.
• The lowest round in BMW Championship history is Jim Furyk's 59, though he shot it at Conway Farms in 2013, not here. Nobody has gone that low at Bellerive — and looking at the scorecard, nobody is likely to.
• Bellerive already has its next big week booked: it hosts the 2030 Presidents Cup, the first team event in club history.

Scottie Scheffler won the 2025 BMW Championship at 15 under, running down Robert MacIntyre, who had led through three rounds after opening 62-64. MacIntyre closed with a 73; Scheffler shot 67 and won by two. He arrives in St. Louis to defend after an eight-shot win at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

Canada's national women's open heads to Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, Alberta for the 52nd edition — the club's third time hosting. Brooke Henderson defends on home soil after beating Minjee Lee by a stroke last year at 15 under, a win that ended a drought of more than two and a half years for Canada's most decorated golfer. The purse is $2.75 million, with $412,500 to the champion.
