Lava fields, red rock, and a $6 million purse.
Play Black Desert yourself this week.
The FedExCup Fall stops at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah, October 1–4, for the Bank of Utah Championship — Tom Weiskopf's final design, carved through black lava fields with Zion National Park on the horizon. The story, the trivia, and how to watch. Best part: Black Desert is loaded on our simulators, so you can play it too.
— About Black Desert Resort
Tom Weiskopf designed Black Desert while battling pancreatic cancer, and he passed away in August 2022, four months before it opened — his routing vision carried through to completion untouched. It sits at a rare convergence of three ecosystems: the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Basin, which is why one fairway can run past black lava rock with red rock mountains and Zion National Park in the distance on the next. Utah pro Zac Blair called the lava a "do or die hazard" — miss the fairway here and you're not finding your ball, let alone hitting a shot.
The course opened in 2024 as Utah's first PGA TOUR venue, and this is only its third year hosting the Bank of Utah Championship. It plays roughly 7,500 yards across 19 holes — yes, 19: there's a bonus short hole built into the routing, a Black Desert signature.
— Worth knowing (trivia for the lounge)
- The signature hole is the 17th, a par 3 Weiskopf built as a tribute to Royal Troon's famous "Postage Stamp" — the tiny, heavily bunkered green where he won his only major, the 1973 Open Championship. Three bunkers guard a green the size of a postage stamp, just like the original.
- Matt McCarty won the inaugural 2024 event on this brand-new course. Michael Brennan took it in 2025 at 22 under, his first PGA TOUR win, and defends this week.
- Tony Finau, Utah's own, returns home to play in front of his home-state crowd. Billy Horschel, Max Homa, and Rasmus Hojgaard headline the rest of the field.
- This is a FedExCup Fall event: 500 FedExCup points to the winner, and a chance for players outside the top 125 to keep their card for next season.
— Last week: Team USA closes out the Presidents Cup
The U.S. beat the International Team 17–13 at Medinah Country Club to win its 11th straight Presidents Cup — a streak that now stretches back to 2005. It wasn't easy: the Internationals swept Friday's foursomes 5–0 to take a commanding lead into the weekend, but the Americans dominated Sunday singles to pull away and close it out. Jackson Koivun was the only player on either side to finish the week unbeaten.

BOOK A BAYLotte Championship, October 1–4
The LPGA heads to Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, on Oahu, Hawaii, for the Lotte Championship. Youmin Hwang defends after a 17-under win last year, and the field again features some of the deepest international talent on the schedule — a fitting island stop as the fall swing gets underway.
